April 2021 3 Stay well All-in-one family care The T. J . Samson Fami l y Med i c i ne Cent e r i s he re f o r you Our T.J. Samson Family Medicine Center (TJFMC) has been offer- ing high-quality and convenient care in Glasgow as part of the T.J. Samson community network since 1997. We understand that, now more than ever, your primary care physician plays a critical role in the health of you and your family. The specialty of family medicine is unique because it provides comprehen- sive, personalized and compassionate care for patients at every age and stage of their lives. It’s nice to know that everyone can go to the same place for their health care—where your family becomes part of our family. A TOP-NOTCH TEAM At the T.J. Samson Family Medicine Center, we offer access to a team of physicians and medical staff to ensure that you and your family receive the best care possible. As part of our family medicine residency program, 12 of our providers are physicians who have completed medical school and are working toward board certification. These residents participate in a three-year residency program that trains physicians in the specialty of family medicine by allowing them to work with experienced supervising physicians. We have five board-certified family medicine physicians who are faculty members of the University of Louisville School of Medicine and oversee all patient care. So your family will have ac- cess to a team of physicians and staff to work with you to provide top-notch individualized care. ALL THE SERVICES YOU NEED Telehealth provides access to care at the click of a button T.J. Regional Health clinics are now offering visits via telehealth, an interactive audiovisual system that allows patients to access quality health care from the comfort of their own homes. Patients who need refills, follow-up appointments or a new consultation with a specialist can call the T.J. Health Pavilion or any T.J. clinic to schedule a virtual visit. These visits are conducted on a smart- phone, tablet or computer with almost no wait time, and they are covered by most insurance plans. Because HIPAA compliance (a policy to keep your health information private) is a top priority, T.J. telehealth visits are conducted securely to ensure strict patient privacy and confidentiality. As part of the visit, the doctor, nurse practitioner or physician assistant has the ability to order tests, such as lab work, x-rays and others, if they are urgently needed. Patients can also sched- ule an in-person visit with their provider, if it is deemed emergent or necessary. Call your T.J. Regional Health provider’s office today to see if a telehealth visit is right for you. Take a shot at shingles No one really likes getting a shot. But no one likes getting a painful disease like shingles either. And it’s safe to say that getting shingles can hurt a whole lot worse than getting the vaccine that helps prevent it. WHAT IS IT? Shingles is a blistery rash triggered by the same virus that causes chickenpox. So if you’ve ever had chickenpox, you’re at risk for shingles. Getting older also raises your risk for shingles. Shingles usually starts with a burning or tingling feeling, followed by a rash, on one side of the body or face. The rash may turn into blisters, which may start to crust over in about 10 days. While some people with shingles have only mild symptoms, others may be racked with intense pain. Sometimes the pain lingers even after the rash goes away. The blisters can cause scars too. Shingles can even spread to the eyes and cause vision loss. See your doctor immediately if you notice blisters on your face. AN OUNCE OF PREVENTION You can reduce your risk for shingles by getting two doses of the shingles vaccine. You should do that if you’re 50 or older, experts say. It’s also good to know that many insurance plans cover the shingles vaccine. Your doctor can answer any questions you may have about shingles or the vaccine to prevent it.
